There are not many politicians in today’s world who are able to bring both sides of the aisle together to work on important matters. Betsy DeVos is one of these special individuals, and she continues to do the unexpected in order to create beneficial partnerships. In recent news, she appeared publicly with Armando Christian PĂ©rez, who is better known by his rap moniker, Pitbull. DeVos had been touring various schools in Florida before making the decision to visit a charter school that was founded by Pitbull. The purpose of her visit to his charter school was to show her support for charter schools in the state of Florida and the United States.

It wasn’t long ago that Betsy DeVos was confirmed in to serve the United States as its secretary of education. She faced quite a bit of pushback from Democrats during her confirmation hearings but eventually pulled through. One of her first moves after her confirmation was to call Lily Eskelsen Garcia and Randi Weingarten in order to try to set a meeting with the two frontwomen of the largest teachers’ unions. Garcia serves the National Education Association as its president, and unfortunately, she declined to return the phone call. Weingarten, on the other hand, made plans to meet with DeVos.

Before any of this took place, Betsy DeVos had been mired in controversy when president Trump had made a decision to rescind a federal policy that was created during the Obama era. The policy allowed transgender students to use a bathroom of their choosing that matched their gender identity. DeVos had met with a representative of gays and transgender students from the educational department and had let the representative know that she didn’t support the move by the president. When the president officially made the announcement, DeVos was present, and she didn’t show any sign that she was not in agreement with president Trump’s decision.

While there was some confusion about the course of action that Betsy DeVos had taken, people who know her best understand that she plays her cards close to her chest. Instead of making a fuss about issues and actions she doesn’t agree with, DeVos is known for taking her fight to her opponents where it matters the most. This is in backrooms and behind the scenes, where real change is made.

Betsy DeVos was born in Holland, Michigan, and she attended a private Christian high school during her youth. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics from Calvin College, which is a private Christian College. DeVos has served in government positions in the state of Michigan and has also worked to create educational organizations that have given many families in the U.S. hope and something to believe in.
